Shopping trip into town? Check. Getting those house chores done? Perfect. Out with the girls? Absolutely! There's nothing a high pony can't do!

And you don't just have to keep it basic! There are tons of different high ponytail styles you can do!

We're going to take you through our top 6 ways on how to do a high ponytail, so let's jump right in!

How to: High Sleek Ponytail

It's best to get the basics right, so let's start with a high sleek ponytail. It's an easy look to master and looks great on everyone!

With any high ponytail hairstyle you do, start by brushing out your hair, making sure that there aren't any bumps, knots or tangles. This is especially important when you're working towards to sleek finish.

Pull your hair up onto the top of your crown – but don't tie it yet! Grab your hairbrush or an edge brush and use it along with some hair gel to slick down your flyaways and baby hairs. You might find you need quite a lot of hair gel here.

The slicker, the better.

Run the gel and comb over your scalp until you have a super sleek finish. Now tie your hair back tightly with a hair tie, making sure to pull your pony quite firmly, but not too tight so that you'll end up with a headache!

Run your comb over your sleek hair a final time to make sure everything is really perfect. You might want to flat iron your ponytail if you're going for an all-over sleek finish, but that's totally up to you.

And voila! You have yourself a high sleek ponytail!

 High Middle Parting Ponytail

How to: High Middle Parting Ponytail

This one is really popular right now, and we're always being asked for advice on how to do a high ponytail with a middle parting – so we're giving it to you!

This high ponytail hairstyle is the epitome of the 'clean girl' aesthetic on TikTok – and if you've seen it, you know what we mean!

Start by finding your middle parting with a comb. You need to make sure this is as straight and clean as possible, as a wonky middle parting will ruin the look.

Once you've split your hair right down the middle, you'll want to take two large sections of hair from the front of your face (we'd recommend starting at your ear). Then use a small elastic to tie this off, so it's out of the way.

Pull the bulk of your hair up into a high ponytail, following those same steps as before. Make sure your ponytail is nice and tight, with no bumps and use hair gel to your advantage.

Once your ponytail is tied up, you can let loose those big front pieces. Then, take them and wrap them behind your ponytail and loop it around the hair tie. Use a bobby pin or hair clip to secure your hair in place.

To finish off, use your hair gel to smooth down your middle part. Give yourself a small spritz of hairspray and you're good to go!

How to: High Curly Ponytail

For our curly girls, don't feel left out! A high curly ponytail is an awesome way to show off your long locks, and looks absolutely gorgeous.

Don't worry about brushing through your hair before – we know brushing out curls just causes a whole frizz party.

Clip In Curly Ponytail

Gather up all of your curls to the top of your head, making sure you've grabbed all of the pieces. Then, use a scrunchie or hair tie to wrap around your high ponytail and secure it in place.

Make sure to pull your ponytail fairly tight, but not so tight that it's uncomfortable.

Use your fingers to pull some body back into your ponytail and fluff out the curl.

Pull out some face-framing pieces if you want to, for an extra cute finish. Finish off by using your hair gel to lay your edges and smooth down any flyaways.

And you're done! We told you it was easy!

How to: High Ponytail Braid

Another popular one we've been seeing all over the socials is this super cool high ponytail braid. It's got all the attitude paired with all the sleekness – and we love it.

Start by tying your hair up into a high ponytail, making sure there are no bumps or tangles, using your trusty hair gel and brush.

More often than not, we see girls rocking suuuper long hair with this hairstyle to create a braid all the way down to the waist, and we've got just the thing to achieve that.

Our 30" Wrap Around Ponytail is amazing for this style, serving inches upon inches! You can just clip this into place over your natural hair, using the wraparound piece to hide the hair tie.

Then, you'll want to simply start braiding your ponytail. You can do this in any style you like, but we think a classic 3-strand braid looks great.

Once you've braided all the way to the bottom, use a clear, small hair tie to tie off the bottom. You can use some hairspray here if you like and take a comb to neaten it up if needed.

Messy High Ponytail

How to: Messy High Ponytail

A messy high ponytail is the ultimate relaxed, cool-girl look. And it's way easier to do than you think!

You can put the hair gel and hairspray down for this high ponytail hairstyle since we're focusing on the messy side of things.

Simply gather up your hair into a high ponytail on the crown of your head. You'll probably want to smooth out any major bumps, but otherwise, keep it as messy as you can!

Tie your hair up with a hair tie and pull on your hair to add some volume and let some pieces fall loose. You're aiming for a 'just-got-out-of-bed' look – so don't worry about any stray hairs!

Spray some dry shampoo or texturising spray onto your ponytail to give it some extra volume, and you're done!

How to: High Ponytail with Weave Extensions

It would be wrong of us not to mention how to do a high ponytail while you're wearing extensions!

In fact, we've got a whole blog post dedicated to high ponytails with weaves, so head over there for a more in-depth step-by-step.

But, if you want a quick summary – follow the steps in the 'high sleek ponytail' section, with a few tweaks. When you're smoothing down your flyaways and baby hairs, you'll want to check for any gaps in your hair where your weft might be poking through.

If there are any gaps, you'll want to use your fingers to cover them with your natural hair.

Final Thoughts: Creating the Perfect High Pony Every Single Time!

If you thought it was tricky learning how to do a high ponytail, think again! All it really takes is a bit of practice and our steps should make it really easy.

Whether you opt for a sleek look, curly style, voluminous ponytail or braid – there's something to suit everyone!
