Having thin hair can sometimes be a struggle. It's constantly greasy, you find styling hard, and when it's windy, you literally have no hope. But that struggle is no more. Extensions aren't just for adding luscious length, you know. We're here to tell you about hair extensions for volume.
If you love the length of your hair but you're unhappy with the volume, the solution is a stunning set of hair extensions (preferably RiRi's) to inject that voluminous look you've always craved.
It doesn't have to be complicated, and you certainly don't need 1000 serums and oils to improve the volume of your hair — just some simple hair extensions.
But which ones?
Don't worry, girls; we'll go through the best hair extensions for thickness, so you can make your decision.
Before we get into the guide, below is a selection of best-selling extensions that bring serious volume to the party. Add one or more to your basket now, and shop using Klarna! (You can also get 10% off *).
No questions are silly questions, but that is, in fact, a silly one. Only joking. But of course you can get extensions for volume, not length.
All you have to do is select your hair extension based on the length of your natural hair.
If you choose something longer, you'll add length and volume. But if you choose something the same length as your natural hair, the extension will provide wild levels of volume.
Finding the best hair extensions for volume doesn't have to be a difficult chore. There are just a few things you should consider.
First, the colour.
We know what you're thinking, "how does the colour impact the volume?" But if your hair extensions perfectly match your natural hair, you'll get a stunningly natural-looking result that blends seamlessly.
This natural blend will give the illusion of volume . Think about it. If you have a dodgy match, your extensions will look fake, distracting from the voluminous look.
Thankfully, we have a totally free colour match service you can use, and our profesh stylists will use their magic powers to find you an unreal match. Get yours below!
You also need to consider the type of hair extensions you plan to use. There are tons of different types, and we'll give you the full rundown of our faves below.
The actual OGs of hair extensions are clip-in extensions, and these bad boys are our speciality and absolute faves here at RiRi.
With a clip-in weft, you'll achieve volume like no other, especially our RiRi's, available in high-quality synthetic hair and real Remy human hair. Perfect, perfect, perfect.
Clip-in hair extensions are especially great for those with thin hair because they aren't a permanent option . You only apply them when you want to look bomb and take them out again to sleep, causing minimal pull and tension on your natural hair.
They're also pretty lightweight , which is essentialfor girlies with thin hair, as you want as little strain on your scalp as possible.
Our clip-in extensions are available in single wefts (ideal for thin-haired girlies) or multiple wefts in various lengths. Both will add insane volume and length if that's what you're after.
We also have astunning range of clip-in ponytails! Perfect for adding volume to your natural pony, and the application couldn’t be easier.
Another variation of clip-in extensions, but they deserve their own section. Absolute beauties.
Half-head hair extensions are some of our best-selling hair extensions , and they're super popular over on our TikTok.
They're exactly what they say they are — half-head, aka, half a wig. And wow, do they provide the volume or what?
They're available in our iconic 24" curly , 24” bouncy , and 26" beach wave styles , so they're probably more for those looking for both length and volume, but we can't say you won't miss out if you don't give them a go.
Even though they have significantly more hair than the single weft, they're still incredibly lightweight , making them the perfect hair extension for thin hair.
Tape-in hair extensions are where things start to get a little more permanent, because a hairstylist installs them, and you can't take them out yourself.
However, that doesn't mean they aren't good for thin hair; in fact, they're kinda perfect.
Tape-in extensions are lightweight, applied with minimal tension, and flat to the scalp for a super discreet look.
Not to mention the fullness they provide for months on end. You'll never want to be without your dreamy, thick hair ever again.
Here at RiRi, they're available in various weights , so you can decide which is best for you. We even have a salon fitting service, where our team of expert stylists will fit the gorg extensions for you!
Micro-link hair extensions are another semi-permanent installation method that’s great for thin hair because they provide minimal stress to the scalp and evenly distribute the weight of the hair.
There’s also no glue, heat, or harmful chemicals involved in the application process, which can be damaging to all hair, let alone thin, because tiny metal rings are used to attach the extensions.
You'll need to find a trusted stylist to fit these for you because, without the proper method, you could end up with damaged hair and in quite a lot of pain.
Of course, as this is a semi-permanent method, you'll also need to carry out regular maintenance and attend refitting appointments, but it's worth it for the volume!
When finding ways to add volume to your hair, it doesn't just stop with the application method . There are other things you can do with your extensions to make them even fuller and bouncier.
Below are a few tricks we have up our sleeves to help you achieve even more volume . When you're done here, you'll be walking around with a lion's mane. Seriously.
Who said you have to opt for just one single clip-in weft? Nothing's stopping you from buying more in your fave styles.
You don't have to buy each weft separately, either. We also have a selection of multiple weft bundles that include different-sized wefts, so you can apply them without your hair looking too bulky.
We often double up on our Deluxes, like the incredible Summer is beautifully modelling here…

I think we all know that curly haired girls are on top when it comes to natural volume (seriously, they hit the jackpot), so, of course, the same goes for extensions.
Choosing curly extension styles over straight styles will instantly increase your volume , and luckily for you, we have plenty of options for you to choose from…
Thin hair often means your hair isn't coarse and is shinier and silky, which is great, but it's not so great for extensions.
Extensions need something for their clips to grip onto. Otherwise, they'll just slip out of your hair and look like they're dragging your hair down instead of making it bouncy.
The trick here is to lightly tease or backcomb the section of your hair you're planning to clip the extensions onto so they have a firm grip on your locks, making styling much easier.
Backcombing will also help provide extra volume. Just don't take it back to 2010 vibes. The backcombing then was mentally and physically scary.
Don't ever say you don't know how to make your hair more voluminous because this guide is literally full of genius ideas, and we're about to give you some more.
Adding volume doesn't have to come from using hair extensions alone. If you want to guarantee a big and bouncy look, you can do a few other things alongside wearing them.
Let us tell you what we mean:
Try a bouncy blowout — You've all heard of a bouncy blowout, and just because you can't quite achieve one at home, it doesn't mean you can't head to a salon for one. Having one of these babies before you clip your extensions in will seriously blow your mind. You can also use heatless curlers for a similar effect (a hack within a hack!).
Use dry shampoo — You can't get any product in your synthetic extensions, but if you apply dry shampoo before you install them, girl, your hair will rock that volume.
Try a volumising shampoo — If you choose a well-known brand with trusted reviews, volumising shampoo can make all the difference and seriously transform your natural hair.
Apply rosemary oil — If you're not already all over the rosemary oil trend, what are you doing? It improves your hair quality and thickness like no other just by using it as a prewash product twice a week. It's a bit of a slow burner, but so worth it.
Creating volume in your hair is literally so easy we could do it with our eyes closed. Providing we have a set of RiRi's anyway.
As long as you take care using extensions in thin hair, you'll create your absolute dream locks without damaging your natural hair. What a win.
Just follow our advice and take note of our expert hacks, and gorgeous, voluminous locks will only be a few clips or tapes away.

If it's volume you're looking for, look no further. We have tons of hair extensions you can use to achieve some insane, volumised looks.
From standard clip-ins to half-head pieces and tape-in hair extensions , we have everything you could possibly need to introduce volume to your thin locks.
Hair extensions are a great idea if you have thinning hair and are a little paranoid about it. Just be careful about the application method you choose.
For example, clip-in hair extensions are light and temporary, meaning you don't have to have them 24/7, reducing the pull on your natural hair.
Tape-ins are also great because they lie completely fat on your scalp for a seamless look.
However, sewn-in extensions or weaves are quite heavy and might do more damage than good to your natural hair.
Of course! Hair extensions are great at adding length and volume, especially high-quality extensions like RiRi's!
If you only want to add volume, not length, that's no problem, too. Simply choose hair extensions that are the same length as your hair.
You can certainly use hair extensions to add volume to short hair.
If you’re not looking to add length, the trick is to choose a hair extension length that’s the same as or as close to your natural length as you can find.
Depending on the length of your natural hair, Remy tape-in extensions are a good choice for very short hair, as these can be more naturally blended.
Clip-ins are good for short hair that falls just above or at shoulder length (we recommend our Deluxe 16” Curlys !).
